I think baby blankets are one of the sweetest things a parent might make or receive for their little bundles of joy!
A proper crochet or knit blanket can last years when well taken care of; and can make a super sweet heirloom gift to pass down.
Living in a place that experiences harsh winters, baby blankets take on new meaning, importance and necessity.
Having or receiving a homemade/handmade blanket can add special, sentimental meaning to it as well.
I've created a baby blanket for every one of my babies and I had a lot of fun creating this pattern for our fourth little on the way! I love the colors, and I love the scalloped edges that I finished it with! I'm sharing the free pattern for you guys below! Enjoy!

Instructions
With Lavender Blue beginning ch 117.
Row 1: sc in 2nd chain from hook (counts as first sc), sc in next loop of chain and sc in each loop of chain across. Turn.

Edging
Row 1 (worked in rounds): In last sc of row 120, work sc in first sc and in each sc across. In last st work 3 sc. DO NOT TURN. Working down the side of the blanket now, sc evenly down entire side until reaching last st. 3 sc in last st. Working down beginning ch and working in unused loops, sc in each loop across to end, 3 sc in last loop. Working up last remaining side of blanket sc evenly down entire side until you reach the first 3 sc you worked. Join in first sc with a slip stitch. DO NOT TURN.
Row 2: Slip st in 2nd of 3 sc worked in corner, work beginning shell (ch 3, 4 dc), * skip next 2 sc, sc in next sc, skip next 2 sc, work shell (5 dc) in next sc ** repeat from * across entire row ending with shell in last st. This should be the 2nd sc in your 3 sc corner. DO NOT TURN.
Continue down side of blanket repeating pattern until you reach your second corner. End with shell in 2nd sc of 3 in corner and continue pattern down third side of blanket again ending with a shell in 2nd of 3 sc corners, continue by working up fourth and last side of blanket continuing pattern to beginning shell.
Join with a slip stitch in top of first ch 3 space, slip stitch in next 2 dc and finish off, switching to Orchid. Cut Lavender Blue.
Note: You may need to adjust your stitches as you go to make sure you end with a shell in each corner stitch. You can do this by dropping or adding a stitch along the way as you see fit.
Row 3: Working with Orchid now; repeat row 2 all the way around. Shells should line up in the 3rd of 5 dc of each corner.
Join with a slip stitch in top of first ch 3 space, slip stitch in next 2 dc and finish off switching to Soft Pink. Cut Orchid.
Row 4: Working with Soft Pink now; repeat row 2 all the way around. Shells should line up in the 3rd of 5 dc of each corner.
Join with a slip stitch in top of first ch 3 space, slip stitch in next 2 dc and finish off switching to Off White. Cut Soft Pink.
Row 5: Working with Off White now; repeat row 2 all the way around. Shells should line up in the 3rd of 5 dc of each corner.
Join with a slip stitch in top of first ch 3 space, slip stitch in next 2 dc and finish off. Cut off.
Finishing
Weave in all ends.
